Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls[/b]




Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.



Freezing rain developing overnight tonight.



A spring storm will arrive overnight, bringing periods of freezing rain to the region. Freezing rain will change to rain by early Thursday evening as temperatures rise above the zero degree mark.



Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. Utility outages may occur.



Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Fraserdale - Pledger Lake

Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls[/b]




A long lasting period of freezing rain and ice pellets is expected beginning tonight and continuing into Thursday morning.



Hazardous winter conditions are expected to develop beginning tonight into Wednesday morning as a mix of ice pellets and freezing rain. Conditions will deteriorate through the day Wednesday, with the ice pellet and freezing rain mix changing over to freezing rain late in the day.



Snow and ice pellet accumulation will be variable across the region however 5 to 10 centimetres is likely.



Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice. Extended and widespread utility outages are possible. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. Rainfall amounts 20 to 40 mm with local amounts to 60 mm.



A low pressure system currently over Lake Michigan is expected to track slowly northeastwards over the next 24 hours. This moist system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms producing general rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm. Areas where one or more thunderstorms track over the same location rainfall amounts could be on the order of 60 mm.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.



Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon.



The main threats are large hail and damaging winds.



Motorists should be prepared for sudden low visibility in heavy downpours from a thunderstorm.



Thunderstorms are expected to move to the east of the region into Quebec this evening.

[b]Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:



Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls[/b]




At 9:52 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail.



It extends from near south of Elsas to north of Foleyet. Motion is southeastwards. They should weaken before they reach the Timmins area.



Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!



Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.



The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Special weather statement in effect for:



Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake

Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls



Snow squalls are possible on Wednesday with more widespread snowfall developing Wednesday night into Thursday.



Snow squalls along a cold front are possible beginning early Wednesday morning. Localized snowfall amounts near Lake Superior may reach up to 10 centimetres, however further inland lesser amounts are expected. Visibilities may be suddenly reduced as the snow squalls move through the region.



Snow squalls will come to an end Wednesday evening, however a developing low pressure system will bring significant snowfall to the region Wednesday night into Thursday. Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected with this system.



Environment and Climate Change Canada is closely monitoring the situation and will issue additional messages if required.

Special weather statement in effect for:



Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls



Widespread snowfall will develop overnight and into Thursday.



A developing low pressure system will bring significant snowfall to the region overnight into Thursday, with total snowfall amounts of 15 cm possible by late Thursday afternoon. The heaviest snow is expected to fall Thursday morning for areas near Lake Superior and during the afternoon for areas closer to the Ontario-Quebec border. Visibilities may be suddenly reduced in heavier snow.



Environment and Climate Change Canada is closely monitoring the situation and will issue additional messages as required.

It's -18 right now with a -29 windchill!!! And still a month and two weeks before Winter begins. Record low temperature was broken today. (let's all deny climate change for the moment)

Winter storm warning in effect for:

Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake
Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls


A major winter storm is expected.

A slow moving weather system approaching from southwest of the Great Lakes is expected to bring winter storm conditions tonight through Monday night.

Snow has begun near the eastern shores of Lake Superior and will spread northeastward through tonight.

Significant snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm as well as brisk winds gusting up to 50 km/h will result in localized blowing snow and difficult travel conditions today through Monday.

Environment Canada will continue to closely monitor this situation and provide further updates as the storm evolves.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Many areas will receive another 5 to 10 cm of snow, bringing total snow and ice pellet accumulation to 20 to 25 cm by Tuesday morning.

The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will result in hazardous travel conditions tonight.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

That's shorts weather!

Although I've seen some folks wear flip flops and shorts at 2 degrees down here at the same time as other folks with toques, gloves and full winter jackets. NO John, it's not me wearing the shorts.
