Full Beard Brewing unveils location in downtown Timmins

Post by Riskynet » Mon Jun 20, 2016 10:10 am

A new craft beer company has some good things brewing for the City of Timmins.

Full Beard Brewing Co., operated by Jonathan St-Pierre, recently unveiled its proposed location in downtown Timmins, with the goal of setting up shop in the old Medi-Chair building on 219 Wilson Ave.

The plan is to transform the 7,700-square-foot space into a microbrewery that will brew original craft beers and offer patrons the opportunity to sample and purchase them straight from the source.

Getting the brewery off the ground has been a few years in the making, and St-Pierre, the president and brewer of the company, said he is anxious to get started and to get feedback from the community.

“We're looking for the community's support to be able to have our brewery in this location,” he said. “I want people to be aware of this location and if they are happy and excited about the location, go out and talk to the mayor and councillors, and to me, because we're hoping to get some good feedback.”

In order to renovate the building and turn it into a brewery, the company has to get the OK from the city to rezone the space, from commercial to light industrial commercial.

They will be meeting with the city's planning department sometime this week and if all goes well, they hope to be have the brewery up-and-running by this coming fall.

As well as doing environmental and community impact studies (which the company has already completed, and passed), they must also allow Timmins residents a chance to voice any concerns they may have with the brewery's location.

St-Pierre is confident, however, that the community believes a new brewery will be good for the city.

He has already gotten some positive feedback, he said, and residents have contacted him to offer congratulations on embarking on the new venture and to volunteer their time to help get things rolling.

“It shows the community wants this really bad,” St-Pierre said.

With all of the events taking place in Timmins over the summer months, he explained that having a local brewery to supply beer to vendors, as well as local restaurants and bars, just makes sense.

“Why not have a nice brewery here locally that can supply the City of Timmins with some good tasting beer? I think it's good to have this brewery in Timmins,” he said, “It will create jobs once we get going and I think it will do really well for us here. It will create a buzz for Timmins, too.”

With his experience as the owner and operator or Tap It! which supplies draught beer, tap equipment, and servicing to local bars and restaurants, St-Pierre is also confident that the company will be successful.

“Friends and family who have tried our recipes have enjoyed it,” he said, referring to the IPA that will be Full Beard's flagship brew. “It's not too heavy or hoppy, people will enjoy it, it's a nice summertime drink.”

As things progress, he also hopes to add an amber ale to the roster and to expand the brewery's services to also do caterings and host corporate and private meetings and events.

The overall goal is to work collaboratively with the organizations and businesses in the community, not to compete with them, and to bring something new to Timmins.

And St-Pierre wants to hear what everyone in the city thinks — whether it's good or bad.

He encourages anyone who has feedback about the brewery or it's proposed location to contact himself directly, a representative of Full Beard Brewing Co., or any member of city council.

My brother-in-law was in North Bay and bought some cans from this company.

Not bad. Can't remember the exact name of it but it isn't on their website. It's a Blonde Lager.

Down here we have a few small breweries. Most popular one (and the beers are VERY good too. Not crazy on the Stout, but not a fan of those anyways) is http://walkervillebrewery.com/.

Glad to see this happening in Timmins. [uhuh

When the gross trend of those awful beards ends, will there be a name change?

[aah

Why should they change it? There are always guys from their 20s to 60s with beards. Probably always will be too.
